Underground sprinkler systems are used to apply the correct amount of water to lawns and shrubs at a specified time. Automating the process ensures complete coverage which results in healthier lawns and water conservation.

A sprinkler system starts with the water source and is either
drawn from underground water using a jet pump like a Stay-Rite pump
or straight from municipal water. The pump draws the water up
from the ground and pushes it out through the underground pipes. If
municipal water supply is being used, the pressure forces the water
out through the underground pipes.

A sprinkler system is split into zones with a typical system having six heads per zone. Depending on water pressure your system may have more or less heads. Control valves are the heart of the sprinkler system and control the water to the various zones. They are wired to the timer which tells the valve to open or close. Only one zone runs at a time.

The timer is programmed with the start and run time for each zone of your system. The timer can hold multiple start times for each day of the week. Flower beds may be programmed to be watered three times a week for five minutes while the lawn may be programmed for five days a week for twenty minutes. The timer takes care of everything and with an optional rain sensor, will turn the system off during rain storms.

Pipe is installed under the ground to each zone and heads are spaced to guarantee head-to-head coverage. This is important so that all of the lawn gets watered consistently and evenly. GNC Pumps & Irrigation uses a vibratory plow that cuts a thin slit into the ground and pulls the pipe under underneath. Installations go virtually unnoticed because of this technique.
Have you ever seen a sprinkler system running during or after a rain storm? That is because that system didn't have a rain sensor. A rain sensor communicates with the timer and lets it know when its raining. The timer in returns prevents the system from running until the rain sensor dries out. The sensitivity level of the rain sensor can be configured to report various levels of moisture. Rain sensors are now wireless and operates up to 300 feet away from the timer. This is a true water saver!
Activate sprinklers without going back and fourth to the timer. The signal transmits 450 feet away from the timer which will allow you to operate the system from any point in the average size yard. This is a very useful tool when you want to adjust the sprinkler heads and then test them without having to go back and fourth to the timer. Also handy when you want to impress your neighbors! Reasonably priced.
